| Areas of Work | Oxford Diocese undertakes development work in a variety of contexts. We have a World Development Group, which focuses on informing churches through public meetings on questions such as Trade Justice and the intersection of Climate Change and Development, as well as managing diocesan campaigns like the Fairtrade Diocese campaign. We have a group of over 400 Fairtrade contacts who receive mailings on trade-related issues and are very active in promoting Fairtrade and working more generally for justice. Our Council for Partners in World Mission sees development issues as an integral part of the five marks of mission, and so includes development considerations in what it does in a "world church" context. For example, we have this year run a course jointly with our Swedish link diocese of Vaxjo: the course examined the idea of mission in all its dimensions . . . from discipleship and teaching to care for creation and concern on global issues. The aim was to equip people in both dioceses to be catalysts for mission in its widest sense. Our diocese also works to bring a development dimension to our link with the Diocese of Kimberley and Kuruman in South Africa; we are currently exploring ways of cooperating with them in various areas such as HIV/AIDS and income generation. |
