Haiti Earthquake Appeal - Call for Debt Cancellation

Christian Aid, JDC and many other agencies are calling for cancellation of Haiti's debt.

At a time when Haiti has been hit by the worst disaster in its history, it needs long-term support as well as emergency financial assistance, not loans with strings attached, if it is to ever rebuild.

Join the call for the cancellation of Haiti's debt of $890m, and for all emergency and development funds to be given not loaned. Sign the petition now.

For 200 years, Haiti has made huge payments on servicing its foreign debt. However, more than $890m remains, owed mostly to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Inter-America Development Bank.

We think this is unacceptable. Please help give the people of Haiti a fighting chance.

Sign the online petition now and call on chancellor of the exchequer, Alistair Darling, to use his influence as the UK's representative to the IMF and help cancel Haiti's debt.
